Gorilla lifespan : What is the lifespan of gorillas? Gorilla longevity varies. There are two different species of gorillas: lowland gorillas and mountain gorillas. Because they are obligated to live in captivity, lowland gorillas are typically found in zoos. On the other hand, mountain gorillas are enormous, intelligent, and endangered wild apes.

Because gorillas and humans share 98% of the same DNA, gorillas are referred to as human relatives, coming in second only to chimpanzees and baboons. Giant, clever, and endangered mountain gorillas share 98% of their DNA with humans, which is why they are referred to as our cousins.
Lowland gorillas can be found in the Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Cameroon, Nigeria, Angola, and certain regions of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In contrast, the wild mountain gorillas inhabit Africa’s mountainous regions’ tropical rain forests.
Among the African nations home to mountain gorillas are Congo, Rwanda, and Uganda.
The mountain gorillas of Uganda are found in two protected areas: Mgahinga National Park and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park in the country’s southwest. Twelve habituated gorilla families are protected by the national parks of Uganda, where gorilla safaris take place. Of them, eleven families are found in Bwindi National Park and one family is found in Mgahinga National Park.
The habitats, hair length, and color of the two species differ from one another. Similar to how humans care for their elderly, gorillas also tend to theirs. The World Life Fund claims that each gorilla has a unique age indication. Gorillas can live up to 35–40 years old, and arthritis frequently affects them, causing damage to their hands, feet, and bones.
Despite the fact that zoo gorillas can live up to 50 years longer than their mountain counterparts. They also have tooth loss, which makes it difficult for them to eat. Because they take longer to eat than other family members, gorillas have a shorter lifetime, which ultimately results in an early death.
