Gorilla Closeup Lodge; Located strategically in the Southern region of the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, Gorilla CloseUp Lodge makes it easy for visitors to trek with the magnificent mountain gorillas from Rushaga and Nkuringo gate. Furthermore, visitors staying at this lodge have the option of going on a gorilla trekking adventure to the neighboring gorilla regions in the park, particularly the Nkuringo gorilla groups. The lodge was constructed on a 40-acre plot of land that shares a boundary with the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to mountain gorillas. The primary reason most guests come to the resort is to see the native bushes, such as fans and eucalyptus tree backs, which resemble gorilla food.

In a serene setting surrounded by nature, the lodge was constructed sustainably with indigenous materials. It is owned by Seith Byarugaba, a local Ugandan whose grandpa was born in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. Later on, he was forced to abandon his family to live along the forest’s edge, where a variety of creatures, including the rare mountain gorillas, call home. Furthermore, the lodge was constructed by the nearby communities using locally sourced materials in order to blend in with the stunning surroundings. This well-designed lodging is overseen by seasoned local employees who are former park poachers, making it an excellent choice.

The Six Superior and Cozy Cottages at Gorilla Close Up Lodge are the Diana Fossey Cottage, George Schaller Cottage, Silverback Luxury Cottage, Jungle Luxury Family Cottage, Royal Luxury Cottage, and Royal Crafted Cottage. Each room has an ideal layout and is reasonably priced. In addition to free tea and organic coffee in each room, free Wi-Fi internet, free room service, and an extensive restaurant with experienced chefs serving English breakfast, 3-course dinners, and packed lunches, the lodge offers other amenities.

Visit the Nyabaremura Batwa Community: From the resort, you can travel to the Batwa community to get an opportunity to interact with the oldest ethnic group in central Africa. This Batwa village was forced to relocate from the forest into an area of roughly 13 hectares, and they are now learning about the sustainable way of life led by these gentle giants.

Gorilla Trekking
The most popular activity offered by the lodge is gorilla trekking, which is done in the Nkuringo gorilla group, one of the four gorilla sectors of Bwindi National Park. The habituated gorilla groups of Nshongi, Mishaya, Kahungye, Bweza, and Busingye are found in the Nkuringo sector. Depending on their actions, the exercise can take anything from 30 minutes to nine hours to complete, starting with a briefing in the morning. You get an hour to spend with them after you set them aside to watch them play, eat, hunt, nest, and take pictures.

It takes nine to ten hours to go from Kampala or Entebbe to Gorilla CloseUp Lodge. Alternatively, you can take a local Aerolink Uganda flight, which takes 1:30 hours to land, from Entebbe International Airport to Kihihi Airstrip.
