Volcanoes National Park Entry Fee: The Rwanda Development Board charges admission fees to visitors and motorized vehicles entering Volcanoes National Park. The area of Ruhengeri in northern Rwanda is home to Volcanoes National Park. The park is home to a variety of animals, including mountain gorillas that are only found in Rwanda, Uganda, and the Congo, as well as the Virunga mountains of Bisoke, Sabinyo, Gahinga, Muhabura, and Karisimbi. Over the course of the year, the park offers a variety of activities. Certain costs must be paid in order to enter Volcanoes National Park and participate in the majority of its activities.
The fees vary depending on the origin of the passenger, including foreign residents, foreign non-residents, Rwandan and East African citizens, and foreign residents of the East African Community (EAC). Additionally, the prices fluctuate based on the various park activities. To encourage internal travel, Rwandan natives pay cheaper fees than everyone else. The entrance costs to Volcanoes National Park for the various park activities are listed below;
Trekking with gorillas
Any person interested in gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park must get a Rwanda gorilla trekking permit, which costs $1,500. The park entrance is included in this charge, and the permit enables visitors to see mountain gorillas in their natural environment. Because gorilla permits are limited and sell out quickly, reservations should be made in advance.
Tracking golden monkeys
It costs $100 for foreign visitors, $65 for foreign residents, $65 for citizens of Rwanda and the EAC, and $80 for foreign residents of the EAC to track golden monkeys in Volcanoes National Park.
Hiking several volcanoes
The total cost of hiking Mount Gahinga, Bisoke, Karisimbi, and Muhabura would be $1,500. The cost of camping is $30 for international residents and non-residents, $10 for citizens of Rwanda and the EAC, and $20 for foreign residents of the EAC.
Hike up Mount Bisoke
It would cost $75 for foreign non-residents, $60 for foreign residents, $55 for citizens of Rwanda and the EAC, and $65 for foreign residents of the EAC to hike Mount Bisoke.
The climb up Mount Karisimbi
The cost of hiking Mount Karisimbi is $400 for foreign non-residents, $250 for foreign residents, $200 for citizens of Rwanda and the EAC, and $300 for foreign residents of the EAC. Mount Karisimbi takes two days to hike. Only the lodging and trek fee are included in the price; the chef and porters are booked separately.
The trek up Mount Gahinga
EAC international residents pay $65; Rwandan and EAC nationals pay $55, foreign non-residents pay $75, and foreign residents pay $60.
Hike to Mount Muhabura
It costs $100 for foreign non-residents, $75 for foreign residents, $60 for Rwandan and EAC nationals, and $80 for EAC foreign residents to hike Mount Muhabura.
Dian Fossey’s burial journey
It costs $75 for foreign non-residents, $60 for foreign residents, $55 for Rwandan and EAC nationals, and $65 for EAC foreign residents to hike to the Dian Fossey cemetery.
Cave of Musanze
Visitors to the Musanze cave must pay $50 for non-resident foreigners, $30 for locals, 4000 RWF for Rwandan and EAC nationals, and $30 for foreign residents of the EAC.
Nature walk with a guide
The guided nature walk costs $55 for foreign non-residents, $40 for foreign residents, $35 for Rwandan and EAC nationals, and $45 for foreign residents from the EAC.
The walk from Mount Muhabura to Gahinga
The cost of hiking both volcanoes is $200 for foreign non-residents, $160 for foreign residents, $130 for citizens of Rwanda and the EAC, and $165 for foreign residents of the EAC.
Camping is available at Buhango Eco Park.
To visit and sleep at the park for the night, foreign non-residents would pay $60, foreign residents $50, Rwandan and EAC nationals $40, and EAC foreign residents $55.
Fees for camping
Foreign residents and foreign non-residents must pay $30 for all camping activities in the park, while Rwandan and EAC nationals must pay $10 and EAC foreign residents must pay $20.
The entrance costs to Volcanoes National Park are listed above. To be recognized as such, foreign residents must present proof of status, such as a work visa valid for at least a year; otherwise, they will be charged as foreign non-residents. These fees can be paid at the park headquarters or at the Rwanda Development Board offices.
