Broadbill Forest Camp

Broadbill Forest Camp; Situated in the Southern region of Uganda, near the Eastern border of Bwindi Forest National Park—home to critically endangered mountain gorillas—is Broadbill Forest Camp, a mid-range lodging option. The camp is situated north of the Kabale town road and south of Ruhijha settlement. The camp is located at the tracking point in the Eastern portion of the Bwindi Ruhjha sector, one of the four sectors that make up the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. By road, it takes about eight hours (540 km) to get to the guesthouse from Kampala via Mbarara Kabele. From Entebbe, it takes 1.5 hours to fly to the nearby Kihihi airfield, and it takes another hour to go to the guest house. The Camp is easily accessible and situated to provide breathtaking views of the surrounding area and Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

The four roomy, cozy cabins at Broadbill Forest Camp are all built in the traditional African style using local wood and offer views of the rift valley and forest. The camp provides family/group lodging in addition to single bedrooms for individuals and double beds for sharing. High-quality amenities like mosquito nets, satellites, extinguishers, flushing toilets with en-suite bathrooms, hot and cold running showers, free bottled water, solar power for the entire house, free toiletries, towels, and pillows are all provided in the raised and furnished camp. The wooden balconies, terraces, and sitting spaces in the rooms allow you to unwind while taking in the spectacular view of the Virunga Mountains, vibrant gardens, and forest. Cozy hardwood beds in each room come with freshly laundered sheets.

The best and most popular national park in the Kanungu district of southwest Uganda is Bwindi Forest Impenetrable National Park. There are more than nineteen gorilla groups in the park, home to endangered mountain gorillas. The entire area of the park is 330.8 square kilometers. In Bwindi National Park, there are over 600 mountain gorillas, of which 19 gorilla families are habituated. There are four distinct sectors inside the park where gorilla trekking is conducted: Nkuringo, Rushaga, Buhoma, and Ruhijha. The three gorilla families that call Ruhijha Sector home are Bitukura, Kyaguriro, and Oruzongo. The lodge is located there. Tracking Nkuringo and Nyakagezi is also possible when visiting the Ruhijha area.

Of all the sectors that make up Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Ruhijha sector is the best and most popular because it offers a stunning perspective of the forest canopy. The cost of a gorilla permit in Bwindi is currently $650, but it will increase to $700 in July 2020. The global population of mountain gorillas is estimated to be about 786. About half of Uganda‘s population resides in the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, with the remaining portion situated in Mgahinga National Park.
