Busingye Gorilla Group

Busingye Gorilla Group:It is one of the five gorilla families inhabiting the Rushaga sector of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

As you travel to Rushaga sector to have an encounter with this group, you will definitely have amazing sights of the rolling hills and views of the Virunga volcanoes plus so many more. This family is a breakaway group from the Kahungye family. The two separated in the month of August in 2012 because of some misunderstandings.

The family now consists of 9 members including 3 infants, 5 black backs and one Silverback. Please take note that the number of mountain gorilla families keep changing due to new gorillas joining the group, their demise, new births and other gorillas fleeing groups to form their own or rather join another.

When Busingye Gorilla Group opened up, the park rangers thought its members will reunite and go back to their former group but unfortunately there no signs for any immediate reunion with the Kahungye gorilla family.

To trek this group, every trekker is expected to be at the park headquarters no later than 7am for a short briefing meeting that should last for about 30 minutes. This is the same meeting where you will be briefed about gorilla trekking and told about the dos and don’ts of this exceptional safari activity.

As you journey to the forest, you will be accompanied by an armed ranger and guide who have knowledge to locate where the family is.

The trek might take up to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas inclusive of one full hour of an encounter with these endangered primates. You are also restricted to stay at least 7 meters away so as to avoid any danger or transmission of illnesses to these gorillas.
