Activities for visitors to Kibale Forest National Park’s Chimpanzee Forest Lodge

Experience Tracking Chimpanzees

The primary activity at Kibale Forest National Park begins early in the morning with a briefing on chimpanzee tracking regulations at the park headquarters.Following that, a park ranger will meet you to go with you along woodland trails in search of habituated chimpanzee species. You will have additional opportunities to see bird species and other animals, such as monkeys, during this 30- to 5-hour hike in the forest. However, after you find the habituated chimpanzee family, you will have an hour to observe them while they play, feed, groom, and shoot pictures for future memories from a distance of four to five.Meeting up with our closest cousins in their natural habitat, with whom we share 99% of our DNA, will be the highlight of our lives.

Visit to the Tea Plantations by Chimpanzees

Interacting with the villagers as they harvest tea and tend to the nursey beds is part of this hiking experience, which might take one to two hours. This is a unique life experience where you will be accompanied by locals who will teach and explain the entire tea-growing and harvesting process to you. Furthermore, you will be able to learn about the many kinds of tea and how long they take to mature. You can also ask to visit a neighboring tea factory, but only if you go on a day when the factory is open to tourists.

Experience with Birds in Kibale Forest

Crowned hornbills, malachite kingfishers, black and white casqued hornbills, turacos, robin charts, woodland kingfishers, blue breasted giant kingfishers, and other water birds can be seen during this fascinating two to three-hour hike around the three crater lakes, which is a great place for birdwatching.

Exploration of Crater Lake

You can choose to visit the incredible crater lakes during your stay at Chimpanzee Forest Lodge. The hike to the three crater lakes—Lake Nyabikere, Lake Nyinabulitwa, and Nyamirima—takes two to three hours, during which you can walk through the community and have the opportunity to talk to locals. The guides will tell you about the lakes’ historical background and significance to the community. We recommend that you bring a clear camera with adequate storage when you visit the Crater Lake because the breathtaking surroundings make for amazing photo opportunities.
