Full List Of Silverbacks In Bwindi

Full List of Silverbacks in Bwindi: Located in the Southwest of Uganda, Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is one of the country’s major national parks and is home to low-mountain and rainforest gorillas. The four regions/sectors that make up Bwindi Forest National Park are Rushaga, Buhoma, Ruhija, and Nkuringo. Each of these regions/sectors is home to mountain gorillas, and groups of eight people can visit a gorilla family there.

A single silverback with ultimate leadership authority constantly provides protection and guidance for the family and its members. The list of silverbacks in charge of defending and directing the family is provided below;

Mwirima-Rushegura Family
The Rushegura family, which has 19 members, is based in the Buhoma region. Mwirima, a silverback who is the brother of Rwansiganzi, a former silverback, is the family’s leader.
Mwirima who is in late 20s a brother of Rwansigazi the previous silverback in Habinyanja.

The Mugurisi-HabinyanjaFamily
The Habinyanja family was led by a silverback named Mungurisi, whose name was derived from the Bakiga word for “old man.” Following Rwansigazi’s surrender of his leadership abilities, Makara the Dominant Silverback became the lead.

The Ruhondeza-Mubare Family
Alpha the silverback called Kanyonyi, succeeded his father Ruhondenza as the head of the Mubare family in the Buhoma sector. Ruhondenza passed on due to his old age.

The Bitukura Family of Ndahura
The Bitukura Gorilla family is led by Ndahura, who succeeded the elderly and incompetent Karumazi as leader. The person in charge of providing happiness for the family is Ndahura.

Tebirikwata – Oruzongo Family
The 25-member Oruzongo Gorilla family is headed by Tebirikwata, one of the oldest gorillas. He is gregarious and has a lighthearted demeanor.

Zeus and Rukina-Kyaguriro
The only known silverbacks in the Kyaguriro family are Zeus and Rukina, even though Zeus was exiled into the jungle and eventually perished there.

Rukina, who subsequently died of old age, left the Kyaguriro family to be governed by a silverback named Rukara, who has authority over fifteen family members.

Safari & Rafiki – Nkuringo Household/Family
The Nkuringo Gorilla family has produced several silverbacks who have led the way for generations. Silverback Alpha, whose name was derived from the word “Nkuringo,” died in 2004, but he had trained his two sons, who are now leading silverbacks named Rafiki (which means “friend” in Kiswahili) and Safari. These sons have assumed leadership roles and are responsible for leading the other 19 members of the family.

Mishaya – Mishaya Clan
The Mishaya gorilla family, which was formerly led by a silverback known as Mishaya, is currently led by Mwine a silverback, when one treks on a journey.

Nshongi – Nshongi Lineage
The habituation family of “Nshongi,” which is headed by a silverback named Nshogi and has 26 members, is located in the same sector.

Busingye & Gwigi – Kahungye family                                                                                                      Silverback The silverbacks Gwigi and Busingye lead a group of 27 individuals of the Kahungye family, one of the families in the Rushaga sector.

There is a list of twenty silverbacks in Bwindi Forest, including the formal leaders and those who have led their families.
