Kyaguriro Gorilla Group

Kyaguliro Gorilla Group; One of the five families living in the Ruhija region of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest National Park is the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group. Uganda‘s Southwest is home to the Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. The Kyaguriro Gorilla Group is situated in Ruhija, one of the four gorilla trekking sectors of this national park.

You will undoubtedly have an exciting experience traveling to the Ruhija sector to see this gorilla group while taking in the breathtaking vistas of the undulating hills of Kigezi.

The Kyaguriro Gorilla Group was initially established in 1995, but at that time, no tourists had visited the family, and there was no guarantee that permission would be obtained to hike with the gorillas. This is due to the fact that the Institute of Evolutionary Anthropology had to first set aside the gorilla family for study.

On April 7, 2015, the family of the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group experienced a great deal of hardship when their Silverback, Rukina, who was the group’s leader at the moment, was killed by lightning.

Following Rukina’s passing, the family looked to Mukazi, a young silverback, for leadership. He held the position until he was ambushed by a silverback from the Bitukura family, which led to the family’s breakup and division. As a result, in May 2016, the following groups were established: Kyaguriro A, Rukara, and Kyaguriro B-Mukazi.

There are reportedly 15 members of the family, including two Silverbacks. This family is frequently found in the Ruhija Sector’s dense woodland.

The Kyaguriro Gorilla Group was set aside for studies, thus despite its familiarity, tourists have not visited it since.

In order to understand more about the mountain gorillas of Bwindi National Park, including their many differences with the gorillas that inhabit the Virunga Conservation Area, the Kyaguriro Gorilla Group was set aside for research.

This family’s history began with an elderly silverback named Zeus, who was exiled by his adversary Rukina and died there. Have fun while you’re in the Ruhija sector.
