River Sezibwa

River Sezibwa: Due to its spiritual significance to the kingdom, this river is one of Buganda’s most prized assets. The middle part of the Great Lakes is home to the River Ssezibwa. 32 kilometers away by car from Kampala, the capital of Uganda. The 150-kilometer-long Ssezibwa River is home to the well-known Ssezibwa Falls.

The Buikwe district, close to the town of Ngogwe, is where the River Ssezibwa originates. Its waters flow into Lake Kyoga from the wetlands between Lake Victoria. Before it empties into Lake Kyoga in Kayunga district, it passes through Mukono district.

In the Baganda folktales, it is stated that the two rivers were given birth to rather than existing naturally. Their mother produced Ssezibwa and his sibling Bwanda while she was traveling to Kavuma Bukunja. The woman, Nakkungu Tebatuusa, and her husband, Nsubuga Sebwaato, were blessed with twins named after water. Ssezibwa flew west, overcoming numerous obstacles without stopping, hence its name, which was derived from the Luganda phrase “siibwa kkubo,” which means “my path can’t be blocked.” Bwanda, on the other hand, flew eastward, in the direction of Nyenga. It is thought that Ssezibwa encountered numerous challenges on his journey, but he managed to overcome them with Nnalongo Kkubo’s assistance. And many people think that this area is a mystical place. In Buganda, having twins is regarded as a blessing because of this legend.

The Ssezibwa Falls, one of the most visited waterfalls in the area, is another breathtaking feature of the river. This hidden cultural treasure in Uganda has stunning vistas of the jagged rocks and the sound of water crashing through the crevices. The 7-meter-tall falls offer amazing beauty and a terrific atmosphere that is perfect for relaxing while you take in the lovely sounds of the birds humming. Standing on the bridge, one can take in all of this beauty. Many shrines can be found at the falls, which are a popular place for worship. People participate in cultural rituals at the top of the falls because they think the beautiful falls have supernatural powers, serve as a connection to their ancestors, and are a blessing zone for many other positive things. Ceremonies for those seeking love, children, commercial prosperity, and a bountiful harvest are held at the well-known shrine “Mbuga ya Musoke,” where it is thought that a resident python named Nalongo is accompanied by a traditional healer.

The beautiful common and unusual bird species that may be seen in the nearby gardens make these falls an excellent destination for bird watchers. Birdwatchers can expect to witness a variety of birds, such as the rare African fin foot, which is only seen in Lake Mburo National Game Park, huge kingfishers, crowned hornbills, Nogrey-headed sparrows, Ross’s turaco, and green hylia, among others. Red-tailed monkeys, vervet monkeys, tree squirrels, Nile monitor Liards, green mambas, and horned adders are among the wildlife that you can view in Ssezibwa.

Because of its proximity to Lake Victoria, it provides an extended trip experience to the Nile’s source, where you may partake in a variety of activities like bungee jumping, white water rafting, and boat excursions.

Additionally, rock climbing has become popular at the falls, where you may try out some exciting rock climbing activities. Community walks, camping, and well led nature excursions are other activities that will be memorable at the falls.
