Uganda Nature Walks (In the Bwindi-Buhoma Sector): The mountain gorillas that live in Uganda, Rwanda, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo are found in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. In addition to gorilla trekking, the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park offers nature hikes in the Bwindi-Buhoma section. There are five distinct day treks, with durations ranging from 30 minutes to seven hours. You may get a chance to witness a variety of monkey species in the forest while on the nature walk.

Up to 200 different bird species that have been identified in the region can be seen.

Nature hikes and treks in Bwindi

As a means of seeing the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, Buhoma offers a variety of hiking and nature walks.

The Muyanga Waterfall Trail begins in Buhoma and travels down the River Ivi to the Nkuringo Trail, ending with a breathtaking view of the falls.

The Rushura Hill Trail passes across two countries that are shared, and on a clear day, views of the Rwenzori Mountains, Lake Edward, the George and the Virunga Volcanoes, and many other sights are possible.

The Muzubijiro Loop is a 6-kilometer walk that around the hill. In addition to seeing birds and a variety of flora, visitors may interact with the local primates and take in the breathtaking Virunga panorama.

The 14-kilometer, seven-hour Ivi River Walk passes through a location called Mukempunu, which is locally translated as “a place of pigs.” The region is home to wild pigs, which may be found there frequently. The routes always meander through gorgeous sections of the rainforest, slowly ascending and descending. See the butterflies, monkeys, duikers, and many birds.

The three to four-hour Buhoma-Nkuringo Trail passes directly into the park before connecting to settlements that provide breathtaking views of the foggy mountainside and baggage. The Ivi River Walk encompasses the entire trail.

The four to six-hour Habinyanja Trail crosses the Munyaga River and climbs the rather steep Habigorooro Riyovi mountain, which provides a view of the Buhoma River. You will be able to view the African corner as you follow; it got its name from a rock fragment that shows the continent’s geography.

The 2-kilometer waterfall route is home to several monkey species, and it takes three hours to complete.

One of the longest walks is the eight-hour Monkeys Ivo River hike. This trek leads to the Ivo River, which forms the park’s southern boundary and provides views of duikers, monkeys, and several bird species.

Buhoma is situated in the rainforest’s northern region. The 13-kilometer Kashasha Trail runs directly through the forest and starts at the Nkuringo Sector Park offices. It then climbs a steep slope through community land. From Buhoma, the Ivy River Trail trip takes roughly 90 minutes.

It takes roughly 5 hours to travel the Kishasha Trail from Nkuringo to Buhoma and 7 hours to travel from Buhoma to Nkuringo. Along the jungle route, you will see a variety of primates, monkeys, and birds.
